Understanding Type A Jade: The Gold Standard of Natural Jade
Published 28 March 2026
Type A jade refers to natural, untreated jadeite that has only been cut and polished. No chemical treatments, bleaching, dyeing, or polymer impregnation have been applied. This is the gold standard in the jade world.
What makes Type A jade special is its natural colour, transparency, and texture. The stone's beauty comes entirely from nature — millions of years of geological processes created the unique patterns and hues you see.
When purchasing jade, always look for a certificate from a reputable gemological laboratory confirming the piece is Type A. Common certification bodies include GIA, HKJSL (Hong Kong Jade & Stone Laboratory), and NFTC.
Type A jade retains its value over time and is considered the only investment-grade jade. Treated jade (Types B, C, and D) may look similar initially but can deteriorate over time as chemical treatments break down.
At Jade Heritage, every piece in our collection is certified Type A jadeite, ensuring you receive only the finest natural jade.
